Sony doesnt just want to be the television in your living room, they want to be the physical representation of your digital entertainment experience. For right now, though, they will settle for just being your whole entertainment center.
Theres been no shortage of new 4K and UHD televisions recently, and Sony is largely responsible for setting that particular train in motion. Their 4K projectors are a big part of your cinema experience in most places now, and while the other guys have been working on ways to drop the price of televisions, Sony has been hard at work trying to bring the cinema into your living room.
Their latest attempt at this is an Ultra Short Throw projector designed to look and act like a piece of furniture, even when it is delivering a mind blowing visual experience.
The problem with a lot of living room projectors is that they are bulky, ugly, and awkward to use unless everyone is seated for a film. Most living rooms really arent built to accommodate the experiences associated with a traditional projector, especially if you have kids. Ultra Short Throw projectors are cool because they sit inches away from the wall and can often project the same kind of experience without the interruptions and temporary blindness typically associated with living room projectors. What Sony has done to enhance this experience even further is make the projector stylish and huge so it can be used as a replacement to your entertainment center.
The projector itself is capable of drawing anywhere from 66 to 147 inches at resolutions as high as 4096 x 2160, so its a real 4K cinema experience. The projector boasts some impressive claims for 3D support and Sonys Triluminous display capabilities as well. As long as you have $30,000 lying around, Sony will sell you one of these entertainment center replacements starting this summer.
