Frog Fractions is one of the funniest, weirdest, most surprising, yet somehow still coherent video games that ever existed. Its a commentary on education, the nonsense of edutainment, and video games in general. Its an experimental piece that explores the critical problem-solving capability and awareness of the average human being. Its an edutainment game itself, teaching you about the history of video games rather than the titular math or biology subjects and considering the creative exploration the game requires you to either already possess or quickly learn to have, teaches you about yourself. Frog Fractions is one of the most brilliant, unique video games that ever existed, yet couldnt exist without the storied history of video games that came before it. Now, its getting a sequel and its going to be even weirder than the first.
Developer Twinbeard has taken to where else Kickstarter in an effort to raise funds for a sequel to one of the most clever video games ever released. The original is free, and you can play it right in your web browser. Dont give up. Youll see.
In true Frog Fractions fashion, the pitch video for the sequel, seen below, is almost as weird as the original game.
Yes, the most pleasant surprises in Frog Fractions are the surprises themselves, so it remains to be seen if Twinbeard can recreate the genuine astonishment of the original when we all know that something is not what it seems. Twinbeard acknowledges this, though, and that means were probably in store for an even more wild ride this time around. In fact, the campaign page is as cryptic as the original game. Jim Crawford Twinbeards founder breaks character and reminds us that he trusted us to figure out the many secrets held within Frog Fractions, so its time for us to repay the favor and trust his need for a budget without divulging too many details. After all, Frog Fractions was about surprise.
Basically, you wont know that the game released. It wont be called Frog Fractions 2 and it wont be listed as a Twinbeard game. Itll be in disguise, and considering the twists and turns of the first game, its entirely possible that youll be playing it and wont even know for hours. Due to this strange release, Kickstarter backers will receive their download codes once the game has been discovered by the masses and the jig is up. If you discover the game before the video games press, you can email Crawford directly and hell provide you with your backer download code.
Back the project over on the Kickstarter page. If you arent sure, go play the original Frog Fractions first. Just be prepared to give Twinbeard some cash afterward. Youll want to.
